DOROT: Holocaust Art Education Center
· Dorot is a new education centre dedicated to teaching the Holocaust and its implications through the arts. Dorot was established in 2008 in memory of Mauritz and Rozalia Mayer.
· Located at Givat Haviva, Dorot is part of Moreshet- the Mordechai Anielevich Memorial Holocaust Study and Research Centre. With its unique approach to experience based instruction, Dorot seeks to engage young and old people from Israel and from abroad, Jews and non-Jews alike. Visual arts, theatre, music, dance- all provide rich interdisciplinary media for the personal exploration of the topics pertaining to the Holocaust, in a hands-on environment that allows for individual expression and discovery. Dorot is dedicated to creating a lasting legacy of humanism, human rights, and tolerance to honour the victims of the Holocaust.
· Dorot is centrally located in Israel, nestled in the green Givat Haviva Campus, between Tel Aviv and Haifa. The Centre will draw students and visitors for study days, seminars, conferences and art workshops, with a variety of interdisciplinary activities that will combine information gathering and art creation. By studying the Holocaust with a particular emphasis on Jewish resistance, Dorot encourages today’s generation to take a stand against racism, anti-Semitism and genocide, and to assume and active role in making the world a better place for all.
· Moreshet is a non-profit organization. All Moreshet programs, including Dorot, are supported by private donations, whose funds are matched by the Claims Conference, in order to achieve a sustainable research and education environment. Your donation to Dorot will facilitate art exhibitions, educational programs, performances and interactive programs that will commemorate the Holocaust and preserve its legacy for all time.
