The “Alex’s Guide” App

For decades, Alex Dancyg was one of the leading and most influential figures in Holocaust education and educational journeys to Poland. As a historian, educator, and guide, he accompanied thousands of students, educators, and visitors, offering them knowledge, depth, and a unique way to understand history and the meaning of memory.

Alex and his longtime colleague, Batya Dvir, wrote guides for educational journeys to Poland, which were published as books by Moreshet – The Mordechai Anielewicz International Center for Holocaust Documentation, Research and Education. These guides served educators and guides on journeys to Poland for many years.

On October 7, 2023, Alex was abducted from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz and murdered in Hamas captivity.

To continue making his educational legacy accessible, the “Alex’s Guide” app was developed. The app enables users to hear Alex’s voice – recreated using artificial intelligence (AI) – as he guides them through major sites in Poland.

The guides were written in light of Alex’s ethical and educational approach to Poland, Polish Jewry, and the Holocaust, combining Polish history with the history of Polish Jewry and the history of the Holocaust.

The app is still under development. At this stage, it includes two main routes – Warsaw and Kraków – and later it will also include Lublin, Galicia, Białystok, and Łódź, until all planned content is completed.

The “Alex’s Guide” app is a joint initiative of the Dancyg Family, Mappo, led by former Member of Knesset Dedi Zucker, and Moreshet – The Mordechai Anielewicz International Center for Holocaust Documentation, Research and Education.
