Besa- A word of Honor

The story of Albania is very unique in the field of Righteous Among Nations.  Albania, the only European country with a Muslim majority, had succeeded where no other country did. most of the Jewish (both native and refugees) who lived in Albania during the German occupation survived. “Besa” – is a code of honor and was the highest moral value in Albania of that time. “Besa” means to keep a promise. a person who fulfils the “Besa” code is a person who keeps his word, and a person can put his and his family’s life in his hands. the help that the Albanians offered to Jewish and non-Jewish people who needed it is considered a national honor. the Albanians did exceptional things to help Jews and even fought for the right to save them. and all of that, they did with love, compassion and the desire to help others even if they have a different religion than them. the exhibition is courtesy from Yad Vashem.
