“Like everybody else?” new activity about daily life under the Nazi regime 1933-1939
NewAbout the exhibition
In the year of 2021, Moreshet institute launched a new unique activity under the name “Like everybody else?”. This activity explores different aspects of the time period and focuses on the German point of view:
♦ What are the changes that a person sees at the street, the cinema, at their working place?
♦ How does the "new” policemen speak to him, how did they view the authorities?
♦ What was the danger a person was exposed to and how did they choose to act when facing them?
♦ Did they try to resist or maybe they preferred to enjoy and benefit from this new reality?
“Like everybody else?” activity also deals with parts of the general populations that had been excluded from society by the Nazi regime, the Nazi education system, the Nazi perception of leadership, the terror that the authorities used on the population and the recruitment of the population to fulfil the Nazi vision. All of that, with the new reality of the German-Jewish population that found itself excluded from all form of public life background of the activity. The activity creates a conversation about living under a Totalitarian regime and the relationship of a majority to a minority, about the relationship between a people and their leader, and the ability of a single person to resist the authorities and listen to their own

…All of us agreed that what we did under your direction, with your superb materials and room designs your museum offers, is the only way to help students understand this difficult subject. You are wonderfully skillful as you teach, and we all learned from you, both the content and, most importantly, the pedagogy, the necessity of having our students up and moving as they learn, of writing and interacting with the history, of making it theirs and not merely swallowing it in some lecture
We loved each of the rooms, we loved the activities, we loved putting papers on the floor and using them to increase our understanding…it was perfect, and I am very grateful to have met you and to have had you as our teacher
Finally, the fact that you are the only museum of the 6 we studied that focuses on the rise of Nazism and Germany is so important to us; I try to teach teachers that this first stage is crucial, but it often falls on deaf ears to those who try to begin with Kristallnacht "in the interests of time," they insist. So their students never understand how it began…and they never understand the Holocaust as a result
Thank you for the fine work that you do. We wish we had had more time to spend with you, and we recognize and appreciate the fact that you stayed late to help us and guide us. You and your museum are treasures, and all of us say thank you. Please share our high praise with your staff…
