The underground journalism
About the exhibition
This exhibitions deals with the underground movement press in the Warsaw Ghetto between 1940-1943. This press had a significant role in the Ghetto. At that time there were hundreds of issues published, the fruits of the Ghetto political parties and youth movement members. The press operated mainly at the first years of the ghetto but declined after the big deportation (Summer of 1942). The underground press was published under difficult conditions due to lack of resources and the need to remain secret. The main topics the underground youth movement press discussed were: describing life in the Ghetto, personal articles describing the personal life of the writers, the attitude towards the judenrat and its institutions, analysis of the war situation, news about the Jews in other cities and countries, news about the concentration camps and calls for resistance.
