About the exhibition
In the year of 2021, Moreshet institute launched a new unique activity under the name “Like everybody else?”. This activity explores different aspects of the time period and focuses on the German point of view: what are the changes that a person sees at the street, the cinema, at their working place? how does the “new” policemen speak to him, how did they view the authorities? What was the danger a person was exposed to and how did they choose to act when facing them? Did they try to resist or maybe they preferred to enjoy and benefit from this new reality?
The “like everybody else?” activity also deals with parts of the general populations that had been excluded from society by the Nazi regime, the Nazi education system, the Nazi perception of leadership, the terror that the authorities used on the population and the recruitment of the population to fulfil the Nazi vision. All of that, with the new reality of the German-Jewish population that found itself excluded from all form of public life background of the activity. The activity creates a conversation about living under a Totalitarian regime and the relationship of a majority to a minority, about the relationship between a people and their leader, and the ability of a single person to resist the authorities and listen to their own conscience.
